Growing instructions:
Location and soil:
Sun: Choose a spot with at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
Drainage: This is key; lavender hates soggy roots. Amend heavy clay with gravel, sand, or decomposed granite. Planting on a slight mound also helps water runoff.
Soil type: Prefers low to moderately fertile, neutral to slightly alkaline soil. Avoid adding too much organic matter or fertilizer.
Planting:
Plant in spring or early summer after the last frost.
Spacing: Give plants 18-24 inches of space to allow for air circulation.
Technique: Gently loosen the roots (or scratch them) and plant at the same depth as in the pot, or slightly higher.
Watering and Feeding:
Watering: Water thoroughly after planting, then let the soil dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is a common killer.
Fertilizer: Generally, avoid feeding; it prefers poor soil.
Pruning:
When: Prune lightly in early spring (March) and again after flowering in late summer (August/September).
How: Trim to shape and encourage bushy growth, keeping the plant compact.
Indoor Growing (Containers)
Use a well-draining pot with drainage holes and a gritty potting mix.
Place in the sunniest window possible (south-facing is ideal).
